Organic fertilizer is a carbon containing material primarily used to provide plant nutrition, sourced from plants and/or animals. It is processed from biological substances, animal and plant waste, and plant residues, and is rich in beneficial substances.
Organic fertilizers play an important role in agricultural production. Firstly, it can enhance soil fertility. There are a large number of beneficial microorganisms in bio organic fertilizers that can decompose organic matter in the soil, increase soil particle structure, and improve soil composition. After the death of microbial cells, the fine pipes left in the soil increase the soils permeability and ability to store water and fertilizer, avoiding and eliminating soil compaction. Secondly, beneficial microorganisms in organic fertilizers can also inhibit the reproduction of harmful bacteria, reduce the use of pesticides, save labor, money, and pollution. In addition, most trace elements in soil exist in insoluble form, and organic acids in microbial metabolites can dissolve these trace elements into nutrients that plants can directly absorb and utilize, greatly increasing the soils fertilizer supply capacity.
Organic fertilizers also have long-term effects, with microorganisms living in the soil for a long time. Nitrogen fixing bacteria, phosphorus solubilizers, and potassium solubilizers can utilize nitrogen in the air and release potassium and phosphorus in the soil that are not easily absorbed by crops, continuously supplying nutrients to crops. According to relevant data, the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers is only 30% to 45%. However, after the application of organic fertilizers, their beneficial biological activities can improve soil structure, reduce nutrient loss, and increase the effective utilization rate of chemical fertilizers to over 50%. Meanwhile, organic fertilizer can increase crop yield and improve the quality of agricultural products. When used as base fertilizer and topdressing, the effect is often better than chemical fertilizer, especially in improving the quality of agricultural products.
In short, organic fertilizers are of great significance in enhancing soil fertility, increasing yield and income.
